FAQ
What is a Giclee (and how do i say it)?
Giclee (Pronounced Zhee-Clay, or jee-clay) is derived from the french word “Giclee” which basically means “to spray.” and has become popular to describe digital fine art printing. The process allows us to print on a wide variety of substrates including cotton watercolor paper, canvas, vinyl, etc. The term can be used interchangeably with “Inkjet Prints,” “Archival Pigment Prints,” and “Pigmented Inkjet Print.”
Is Giclee the only type of prints you offer?
No, we produce prints that can also be used for signage and billboard equipment using solvent of latex inks, which while great for those purposes are not meant to last or capture the subtler details of fine art and photographic reproduction.
What is the turnaround time in giclee prints?
For unframed print ready artwork we can usually get them out in 2 to 3 business days. It takes just a little longer for framed or stretched prints but if you have a deadline just let us know and we’ll see if we can make it work!
What are the file requirements for printing?
We’ve set our minimum resolution for upload 150 DPI to leave more options available, but we highly recommend to submit your files as 300 DPI resolution and set at the size you want your final print to be. Your Image formats must be .jpg, .tiff, .eps or .pdf. All these specifications are crucial for the best quality print possible, but rest assured that we look at each and every file and if we see a problem we’ll contact you before printing.
What is the clients involvement in the design process?
We thoroughly discuss the project at hand with our client from the beginning. We encourage the client to bring in any samples, color combinations/swatches, and ideas they may have, During the design process, the client is asked to approve mock ups during the design process. If The Print Studio is ready to print the design project, we will submit a final proof for the customer’s approval before submitting to print. If approved, the design job will move into production.
